Bushwhacking

We wanted Myra to have a chance to meet Steve and Iretta and see their beautiful property so we bushwhacked through the shortcut to their house again. Everything was overgrown even worse than the last time we took this route, and we had a big rain the previous evening so there were muddy sections to contend with as well. Deborah did her best impression of a luge competitor by sliding down a short but steep muddy slope on her backside. The resulting large brown stain on her otherwise white shorts was suggestive of the sort of accident common to two-year olds and incontinent senior citizens. She was unable to see the full extent of the damage and was actually intending to continue our walk into town as is. We all strongly encouraged her not to do so, and when she switched her soiled shorts for ones Iretta lent her, she quickly realized why.

Semoko was working at Steve and Iretta’s the day we visited, and he was thoughtful enough to hack a path for us back to the road we were aiming for. The road continued down to town where Myra had the opportunity to visit Mariam and Kam’s store for additional souvenirs. She was particularly interested in the various types of battle axes and other traditional weaponry. One item she purchased was a combination club and cannibal fork. That may say something about Myra but I prefer not to speculate.
